Artiste pluridisciplinaire, chercheuse et directrice artistique d’origine guadeloupéenne, Claire Zaniolo est née et a grandi en France. Une partie de sa pratique mêle photographie, vidéo et graphisme. L’autre est basée sur ses recherches autour des afrodescendant·e·s des diasporas. La révolte, collective comme intérieure, est le motif central de son travail. Claire Zaniolo est attachée au print, au solide, au tangible : la photographie argentique, l’impression et la reliure domestique, le collage de textures papiers et numériques sont des gestes qu’elle explore au fil de ses œuvres et des ateliers qu’elle mène.

Née en 1991, elle étudie l’histoire de l’art, le cinéma et expérimente la photographie et la création de fanzines. En 2020, elle réalise mourning, march and celebration, un ouvrage qui rassemble des portraits d’afro-descendant·e·s au Brésil, à Londres et à Paris. Il remporte le premier prix du festival “Les Ondes éphémères” du Bal puis est publié aux éditions Le Bal Books. Il est présenté en octobre 2021 par le projet Transplantation library, à Kadist (Paris). En mai 2021, son mémoire de recherche The Black Panther — Black Community News Service est invité à rejoindre la sélection du collectif Good for a gxrl lors de l’exposition “Subversif·ve·s: graphisme, genre et pouvoir” au Mudac (Lausanne). En juillet, elle obtient un Master avec les félicitations du jury au Campus Fonderie de l’Image, avec Où sont les frères+, les sœurs &= les adelphes sur le mur de la gloire ? un projet de circulation de données sur les artistes graphiques et plastiques noir·e·s. Elle travaille sur deux projets d’ateliers pour adolescent·e·s à Ivry-sur-Seine (2022) et Clichy-la-Garenne (2023) en collaboration avec Le Bal. Elle est résidente à Artagon Pantin 2022/2024 ainsi qu’aux Atelier Médicis dans le cadre du programme Création en cours 2024. 

Elle réalise en parallèle divers travaux de refonte et création graphiques pour des structures engagées (La CAAN, La Flèche d’Or, Digital Freedom Fund...).

Du 17 octobre 2024 au 5 janvier 2025, Claire Zaniolo fait partie de l'exposition collective "Tituba, qui pour nous protéger ?" au Palais de Tokyo (curation Amandine Nana) avec une installation de photo inédite nommée Portrait des mien·nes — Guadeloupe après 15 ans d'absence.

Claire Zaniolo is a french multidisciplinary artist, researcher and artistic director of Guadeloupean descent. Part of her practice involves photography, video and graphic design. The other part is rooted in her research about Afrodescendants of the diasporas. Revolt, both collective and intimate, is at the core of her work. She is attached to the print, the solid, the tangible: film photography, domestic printing and binding, collage of paper and digital textures are gestures she explores in the course of her work.

Born in 1991, she studies art history and cinema and experiments with photography and zines. In 2020, she wins first prize at LE BAL’s zine festival with 'mourning, march and celebration', featuring portraits of Afrodescendants in Brazil, London and Paris, then published by Le Bal Books. In 2021, her research dissertation about The Black Panther Party journal is part of the exhibition 'Subversif·ve·s: graphic design, gender and power’ at Mudac (Lausanne). She obtains a Master’s degree with honors with ‘Where are the brothers+, the sisters &= the adelphs on the wall of fame?’, a project to circulate data on Black artists. In 2024, she is invited by Palais de Tokyo curator Amandine Nana to take part in ‘Tituba, who protects us?’, a group show around the eponymous figure from Maryse Condé’s novel. She shows an original photo installation ‘Portrait Of My Loved Ones’ and then publishes her second photo zine ‘le passage’ with the Palais’ micro-edition studio. She also gives workshops for teenagers with LE BAL (2022-23) and Ateliers Medicis in Guadeloupe (2024).
