Artiste pluridisciplinaire, chercheuse et directrice artistique d’origine guadeloupéenne, Claire Zaniolo est née et a grandi en France. Une partie de sa pratique mêle photographie, vidéo et graphisme. L’autre est basée sur ses recherches sur les afrodescendant·e·s dans les espaces où iels sont considéré·e·s comme minoritaires. Souvent, les deux se croisent et se rencontrent. Ses projets sont souvent pensés à travers une approche militante ou engagée. Elle accorde une place importante au print, au solide, au tangible : la photographie argentique, les techniques d’impression et de reliure domestiques, reviennent régulièrement dans son travail.

Née en 1991, elle étudie l’histoire de l’art, le cinéma et expérimente la photographie et la création de fanzines. En 2020, elle réalise mourning, march and celebration, un ouvrage qui rassemble des portraits d’afro-descendant·e·s au Brésil, à Londres et à Paris. Il remporte le premier prix du festival “Les Ondes éphémères” du Bal puis est publié aux éditions Le Bal Books. Il est présenté en octobre 2021 par le projet Transplantation library, à Kadist (Paris). En mai 2021, son mémoire de recherche The Black Panther — Black Community News Service est invité à rejoindre la sélection du collectif Good for a gxrl lors de l’exposition “Subversif·ve·s: graphisme, genre et pouvoir” au Mudac (Lausanne). En juillet, elle obtient un Master avec les félicitations du jury au Campus Fonderie de l’Image, avec Où sont les frères+, les sœurs &= les adelphes sur le mur de la gloire ? un projet de circulation de données sur les artistes graphiques et plastiques noir·e·s. Elle travaille sur deux projets d’ateliers pour adolescent·e·s à Ivry-sur-Seine (2022) et Clichy-la-Garenne (2023) en collaboration avec Le Bal.

Elle réalise en parallèle divers travaux de refonte et création graphiques pour des structures engagées (La CAAN, La Flèche d’Or, Digital Freedom Fund...).

Claire Zaniolo est résidente à Artagon Pantin 2022/2024 ainsi qu’aux Atelier Médicis dans le cadre du programme Création en cours 2024, pour lequel elle est actuellement en Guadeloupe.

Claire Zaniolo (she/they) is a multi-disciplinary artist, researcher and artistic director of Guadeloupean descent. She was born and raised in France. Part of her practice combines photography, video and graphic design. The other is based on her research into Afrodescendants in spaces where they are considered minorities. The two often intersect and meet. Her projects often take a activist or committed approach. She gives pride of place to print, to the solid, the tangible: silver photography, domestic printing techniques and binding recur regularly in her work.

She was born in 1991. She studied art history, cinema and works with photography and fanzine creation. In 2020, she produced mourning, march and celebration, a publication that brings together portraits of Afro-descendants in Brazil, London and Paris. It won first prize at the "Les Ondes éphémères" festival at the Bal and was then published by Le Bal Books. It is presented in October 2021 by the Transplantation library project, at Kadist (Paris). In May 2021, her research paper The Black Panther - Black Community News Service is invited to join the selection of the Good for a gxrl collective during the exhibition "Subversif-ve-s: graphisme, genre et pouvoir" at the Mudac (Lausanne). In July, she obtained a Master's degree with honours at the Campus Fonderie de l'Image, with Où sont les frères+, les sœurs &= les adelphes sur le mur de la gloire? a project of data circulation on black graphic and plastic artists. She is working on two projects of workshops for teenagers in Ivry-sur-Seine (2022) and Clichy-la-Garenne (2023) in collaboration with Le Bal. 

She carries out various graphic redesigns and creations for committed structures (La CAAN, La Flèche d'Or, Digital Freedom Fund...). 

Claire Zaniolo is a resident at Artagon Pantin 2022/2024 and at the Atelier Médicis as part of the Création en cours 2024 programme, for which she is currently in Guadeloupe (West Indies).
